Four places, one journey
A general ticket covers the Legacy Museum, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Freedom Monument Sculpture Park and Montgomery Square. EJI recommends several hours for the museum alone.
Why the river matters
Freedom Monument Sculpture Park sits on the Alabama River and explicitly interprets the history of slavery, including the river’s place in the city’s economy and the lives of enslaved people.
The museum is not designed as background
The Legacy Museum sits near former sites of slave trading and uses immersive exhibits, art and historical documentation. Photography rules are intentionally restrictive inside the museum.
